Recognize “Don’t Fry Day” by Following Sun Safe Tips
By Richard Bezozo, M.D., President of MoleSafe
Millions of Americans are heading to beaches and warm-weather getaways this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day, seeking to dive toes deep into the sand as they celebrate the unofficial start of summer! However, Memorial Day Weekend is not always so bright. This weekend tends to be peoples’ initial contact with the sun since last season, hence the reason why so many get sunburned. To commence the highly anticipated Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 24, 2013, has been declared as “Don’t Fry Day,” by the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention, as an effort to encourage sun safety awareness.
This year alone, the American Cancer Society projects approximately 76,690 new melanomas, the most serious and deadliest form of skin cancer, to be diagnosed, giving us all the more reason to practice safe sun techniques to reduce your risk. In full support of “Don’t Fry Day,” to help you keep your skin healthy and enjoy being outdoors and avoid the painful start of the sunburn season, be sure to follow these simple tips below:
· Use sunscreen. Whether you’re at the beach or at a barbecue, always wear a broad-spectrum and water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Apply the sunscreen generously to all parts of your body 30 minutes before going outdoors, to allow it to absorb in your skin, and reapply it every 2 to 3 hours. Even if you aren’t so lucky to get sunny weather, if you are outdoors, be sure to apply sunscreen because approximately 50 – 80 percent of UV rays penetrate through the clouds.
· Limit exposure. Despite our desire to spend countless hours outdoors this weekend, it requires some risk-taking. Try to avoid the sun or minimize your time outdoors during the sun’s most powerful hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are outdoors, seek shade when possible.
· Cover your skin. Wear a hat, put on some wraparound UV-blocking sunglasses, and don’t forget to apply a lip balm that contains an SPF. Sun-protective clothing and bathing suits that contain an ultraviolet protective factor (UPF) are also a good idea to wear to enhance protection from the sun’s harmful rays, especially for lighter-skinned individuals who are more prone to sunburn.
· Treat your burns. If your skin does happen to burn from too much sun exposure, apply aloe or moisturizing cream to ease the discomfort and hydrate your skin and be sure to stay out of the sun to limit any further damage.
This “Don’t Fry Day” reminds people to be proactive in their skin health this weekend, and every day of the year. In addition to following these tips, it is important to note that the best way to detect skin cancer is to regularly check your skin and enroll in an early detection melanoma screening program, to monitor for changes in moles and for new skin growths and lesions. I encourage you to take the lead in your health and enjoy your Friday, without making it a “fry” day.

Favorite Music Concert You Ever Attended?
Back then concert tickets were around $15.00 to get in and you could purchase an official tour t-shirt for around $20 to $25 as your souvenir. Wow...times have changed and I have attended many concerts since that first time.
If I had to pick some favorites, I would have to choose: Metallica, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Rick Springfield and I think my ultimate favorite would be Billy Idol since hubby proposed to me at the Billy Idol concert while Billy sang White Wedding! Wow, those were some fun times for sure!
So today, we would like to know what concerts you have seen and if you have any favorites? Any wild stories to share and do you still attend concerts?
Get Away This Summer to the Fun Island of Aruba
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Aruba Tourism Authority for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
Hubby and I are sitting down and working on our vacation plans for the Summer and Fall seasons and one of the areas we are really taking a look at is Aruba! Years ago I had the pleasure of visiting Aruba but hubby personally has never been there.
I am a total lover of any beautiful place that has fine beaches and Aruba definitely fits the bill. When you visit Aruba you will find turquoise colored water, white sandy beaches and plenty of sunshine. The seven-mile strip along the western side has some of the best beaches in the world!
You can spend hours upon hours just sitting & relaxing on the beach, taking beach walks, doing some snorkeling, collecting seashells, jet skiing and all kinds of other things. One of my favorite things to do while relaxing on the beach is to just sit there and read a good book.
One of the beach activities that is very popular in Aruba is kitesurfing and I think that is an activity that my husband would enjoy. He is all about physical fitness and trying something new, so I think that would be right up his alley.
After we are done spending some time on the beach, we could hit up some fine Carribean culinary places and enjoy a delicious meal. I would love some great tasting Carribean seafood and I think my husband would go for some classic American fare like a juicy grilled steak.
What is really cool is that American currency is accepted all over the island so you can use traveler's checks, major credit cards or cash. That makes my shopping a whole lot easier because if we head to Aruba, I plan on doing a lot of that! (every girl loves shopping, don't we?)
When you do any type of Aruba travel I think it's best to allow a full 7 days to see everything that Aruba has to offer. If you have been there several times before, well then try 5 full days, but personally...7 days is the way to go!
Since I am a lighthouse lover and visiting as many that I can (I also collect lighthouse items), I plan on touring some of those beautiful lighthouses should Aruba become our romantic vacation trip this year. For those of you who are considering visiting, check out this informational video for more information.
Have any of you ever visited Aruba? If so, what did you think? What kind of activities, food and nightlife did you go out and enjoy? I would love to hear all about it!
Shopping for New Clothes
Try out some high waisted jean shorts or maybe some spring dresses that are all around us along with crop tops (get some cute ones from http://www.swaychic.com/) which are all the rage as well.
Since summer is obviously the hottest time of the year, it is best to wear clothes that are made of a very light fabric and will not make you suffer. All kinds of dresses are available from www.swaychic.com. Meaning, don't wear anything too tight or too heavy (unless it's weather appropriate).
Lace dresses are absolutely great for summer since they are so light and soft. Lace is usually white which is the best color to wear when it's hot outside. White colored clothes or dresses can help to reflect the sun off of you to cool you off, as opposed to wearing black in the summer which is supposed to absorb the heat and make you warmer.
Always pay attention to the weather before getting dressed for the day since nothing can ruin a fabulous looking dress like you sweating in it. Wear comfy and light as a feather clothes on the hottest days, such as a loose fitting sun-dress. This type of dress will help you to maintain a draft and keep cool rather than be stuck in a tight fitting dress feeling like you're going to suffocate. On the cooler days is when I would opt for the tighter dresses since they will keep your body warmer.
There are tons of different choices for you to wear this year, and I'm sure that no matter what type of dress you choose, you will look beautiful in any dress. Dresses are very attention catching and can really show off a woman's figure, along with her taste in fashion. Men tend to love dresses since they flatter women so beautifully and the fabric is nice to look at. It also helps them to feel like the stereotypical man if he is dressed in a suit and she goes out with him in a dress. Most men much rather prefer cute dresses to 'too mini' mini-skirts. It is much more flattering and gives a sense of pride and confidence.
Standing out has never been so easy when you shop online! Since most people tend to go to malls for their clothes, you are almost guaranteed a unique and beautiful outfit. Bonus points if you get your makeup to match your dress as well.
